Probably trying to sell all the current ones first?

It is about time that people didn't start selling 2018 cars till 2018 actually comes around.

Bob,
If you notice even the import (read Japanese) advertising is typically for the 17s.  As Bruce said, they have 17s coming out of their "ears" and have to sell them.
Even Harley Davidson, last year (I do not know what the situation is today) was selling 16's well past the middle of 17.  With vehicles being so exciting these days, people have very little incentive (or money) to replace them until they are worn out.

I recall from my youth (late 50's), the BIG FOUR announced dates for unveiling their new models on live TV.   The three (yes, 3)  TV networks would provide national audiences with "teaser announcements," to keep the national audience in suspense for the big fall unveiling of their highly styled cars.  The car was always on stage, and the theater audience would be prompted to "ooohh and ahhhh."   (Not so much now...)

Aussies don't buy a new car till the old one is worn out.   And when we do buy one, most buy good used ones.

Some 2018s may have a later than usual release but I think most have been out for at least a couple of months.  September (or so) has long traditionally been the start of the model year but sometimes cars do get released for sale early and sometimes late.

TV ad dollars right now (this time of year) tend to focus more on moving remaining leftovers and playing up the related discounts/savings.  Those seeking information on 2018s can go online to various auto sites, brand websites, etc. where there's details aplenty!

All of that was before the Internet.  It's just done through a different medium these days and more so.  For better or worse, people today have much more and easier access to details about new and upcoming models, concept cars, test mules, etc.  throughout the entire year.  By the traditional start of the new model year, pictures, videos and other information about the cars have already been splashed all of over the Internet on auto related sites, news sites, and/or manufacturer sites.

In northern Vermont, the Burlington Cadillac dealer lists 22 new Cadillacs. Ten are 2017s and 12 are 2018s. The St. Albans dealer lists 11 new Cadillacs, 5 are 2017s and 6 are 2018s.

I'm sure the dealers most want to move the 2017 models.

I remember when I was a kid that each September was the month for the unveiling of new models.  A few weeks before September you would see the showroom with a car covered in the center basked in lots of lights. I would go back and check all the models out and see which ones where the basic, mid range and drool over the top of the line. I really looked forward to those days.  Today cars almost look the same with mundane looks.  Now all I get excited about is whats for breakfast. I do miss the big cars, my XTS is nice but its not that big of a car.  It does have technology that distracts me from time to time.  Merry Christmas everyone!

90% are ex Government and Corporate replacements.

When I was buying and selling "governmental" vehicles, we would replace them at 40,000 Kilometres or 2 years, whichever came first.   I would be responsible for buying millions of dollars worth each month, and the replacements were snapped up every month under a Tender system.

Bob, I have a 2018 Blue GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab in my garage, I bought it last month after searching the remaining 2017's  which were mostly white or black and only had the 5 1/2 foot beds. The incentives on the 2017 were at about their best around Halloween.

These days, how does one know whether a car is a 2017 or a 2018?  Certainly not by looking!   :-\

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth LOOK Magazine use to print color photos of every new car as the model year began.  I collected the magazine pictures, taped them to my bedroom wall and lapped up every detail.. All those beautiful GM Chrysler, Ford, AMC and Studebaker products.

At least most Cadillacs for the North American market are made in North America right now.
Cadillac ATS = Michigan, USA
Cadillac CT6 = Michigan, USA
Cadillac CTS = Michigan, USA
Cadillac Escalade = Texas, USA
Cadillac XT5 = Tennessee, USA
Cadillac XTS = Ontario, Canada

It has been reported that the upcoming CT5 and another model (CT3?) will both be built in Michigan and speculation is that the XT4 will be built in Kansas and a second new crossover (XT6?) in Tennessee.

Bob, I agree with Marty.  We've been looking to buy a '17 Yukon for several months, October was the best pricing on '17's.  We ended up with an '18 (from out of town dealership) for the same price our local dealer is still trying get on the equivalent '17's (except our '18 has a 10 speed trans instead of 8 speed)  All the local ads are still pushing the '17's.

Guys,
Many of you are reading WAY too much into my post. I have NO interest in buying a 17 OR an 18!! I was merely asking why they keep promoting 17's at this late date. They must have a REAL big leftover inventory. Please note the #4 car on my signature page. I've had  more people come up & give positive comments on that car  than any car I've ever owned.

Funny, I wrote an article some time ago about how all products seem to reach the "best it can get" status.

Most thinking folks have to be convinced that it's a better iPhone than the last and must pay a ton more money to get the new one when in reality, what can they really improve on?  The apps are really what make the phone "better".

Cars, kind of the same.  As pointed out the differences between a 2017 or an 2018 is probably not much.  The tech in the new cars already can do everything but give you a haircut.  And really have been only inventing silly ideas that smell more like a gimmick than a real option upgrade that is way more useful than last years model.

And then there's toilet paper...  How many years and it's still as "good as it gets"...
