Hello all,
I was starting to remove the wheel covers on my 37 LaSalle when I found that the cover didn't really have enough gap to use a tire tool to pry off. I bent a piece of metal to fit between the cover and the wheel and was able to get the covers off, but was wondering what everyone else used ,or adapted. I did a little research and found that there was a special tool provided years ago but haven't managed to find anything.  Thanks, Paul

I found an old bicycle tyre lever, heated the end and bent a tight curve on it. Works a charm but I have also found that these brake spring removers work really well too. You can hook these into the space beside the valve.

McVey's use to sell a hubcap removal tool.  I have one someplace.  Several years ago it was priced at $17.00 plus shipping.  Don't see it listed on his current website.  It did not work well.  I really like the one Steve found.  Here's the link to one like it on US eBay:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Bike-ATV-Scooter-Remove-Install-Brake-Spring-Hook-Puller-Tool-Sport/192410725579?hash=item2ccc92accb:g:49kAAOSw3gJZHPt0&vxp=mtr  Can't beat the price - $5.31 with free shipping.

After much experiment (R & D) on my part, I made this tool out of 3/16 x 3/4 flat stock to reach in and remove the hubcaps off of my powder coated wheels on my '59 p.u. without removing the bands.
I ground one side flat to slip under the cap. This affords great leverage and with the taped area of the tool which does not damage the wheel. Also the design does not let the tool reach the band. Repeated r&r of the band just wears on the finish of the rim.
I will slip some shrink tubing over the taped area when I run across some big enough.

Thanks for the info. Big snow this weekend ,so I think I will see what I can make in the shop! Never would have guessed I would have to make a special tool for wheel cover removal. I love old cars!
