Gentlemen what is the color that's sprayed underside of the hood. The authenticity manual says gloss black, however my paint team claims that they found Long Key green which was the original color of the car. Unfortunately before the car went to the paint shop the hood underside was so rusty and dark that I always assumed it would be black and unfortunately I wasn't around when they sanded all the rust and muck out.

Hello Amol, I don't have a definite answer to your question other than to point out the manual also says the underside may have body color overspray on it.

Yes that's true I too read about the over spray, however they claim that the whole underside was body color with muck and other deposits on top. Personally I feel body color would look a lot nicer.

I have done several 1940 cars and they were black but I would not doubt that some may have been painted body color.  These are the kind of questions that are unknowable in all cases.  Might have been overspray or it got painted.  On the 38 to 40 big series cars many years ago there was a debate about whether the firewalls were black or body color.  In that case it turned out there were both.  Cadillac did not have the authenticity manuals.

Hi Brad yes I think that the hood underside may have been painted body color especially since it was a "SO". Thanks for the insight.

Find attached photo of what the underside looked like when I bought the car
