What is the correct color for the air vent doors , the grills over the doors , and the headlight bases - semi gloss or gloss black ? Thanks , Paul Tesone CLC #6876 .

Hi Paul,

Some clarification please. The AC vents on the dash? Grilles over which doors? Do you mean the hidden sheet metal bucket that houses the headlight assembly under the chrome bezel?

Hello Ralph - yes , I do mean the buckets for the headlights . As for the vent doors & vent grills , I'm talking about the under dash vents on the interior firewall . They consist of a rectangular metal "door" that pivots to open and close , & is protected by a metal grill . The "doors" , grills and the headlight buckets on my project car all appear to be a gloss black ( I'm sure they are original ), but I just found in the Authenticity Manual that the firewall "heating/ventilating fixtures" should be semi gloss black . Since they all look the same , I guess I'll paint the buckets semi gloss as well . Thanks for your interest . Paul Tesone CLC #6876 .

Paul,

My headlight buckets looked like under hood black splashed on both sides. Most of the utility black had more shine than semi, but not a true gloss. I don't recall specific details of the vents on the firewall but assume it would be utility black.......By the time I dug that far into the my car I was thinking of taking up model trains.

Ralph - model trains are looking good right about now . My restorer is getting a little crazy on me . The car is TOTALLY disassembled with most of the paint stripped off . The rusted floors have been removed and most of the new floor panels have been fit to their correct position . Welding to happen soon . Then the body is coming off so the frame can be sand blasted and painted . I'll post pictures once I see some significant progress . I'm sure I'll have more questions before this project is done .As always , thanks for your interest and advice . Paul Tesone CLC #6876 .
