Van anyone tell me the exact year & model of this Cadillac? It was my Father's 1st Cadillac and I want to see if I can find one.  Thanks!

49, or 48? The parking lights look like a 48.

It's definitely a '48.  The chrome around the parking or fog lamp on a '49 is different.

A 48 Sedanette for sure but strangely missing some of it's stainless from behind the front wheel arch and rocker.

I think only the 62 had the additional trim, 61 didn't.

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the prompt replies.

Some think it is a 1948 and others a 1949. I really would like to nail the year down, is everyone now in agreement it is a 1948?

Thanks again to everyone, I am a Packard Guy and delving into unknown waters here.

I agree 1948. I could not see the hashmarks under the taillamps but they're apparently out of view.

You can rest assured, It's a 1948 fastback coupe.

Thanks to everyone, I believe everyone is in agreement that it is a 1948 model.

Now, all I have to do is find one for sale at a reasonable price. I am not looking for a Concourse level restoration, just something mechanically sound so i can drive it frequently. I have done this with my 1941 Packard and drive it every week.

Thanks again!

Series 61 had stone guards on the rear only and did not have the stainless rocker trim.

I don't believe they had hash marks under the tail lamps either, only on Series 62. (When correcting Eric, I always look things up in the book.)

Based on images in '48 sales literature, 61 Series does not have the stone guard behind the front wheel or rocker chrome molding or the hash marks below the tail lamp. Those feature are on the 62 Series.

Gentlemen,

The most visible difference between Series 61 and 62, in both 48 and 49, is the stainless rocker molding that extends from behind the front wheel well and along the rocker panel in Series 62.  Also, in Series 62 the inner window surround moldings are stainless in Series 62 and painted in Series 61.

In 1948 only there are 2 chrome "hash mark" moldings under the tail lights in Series 62.  The front of the 48 hood has a different shape than the 49 hood, probably because the 48 motor and radiator are taller than their 49 counterparts.  The 48 dash is very different from the 49 dash.

It's all in the 1948-49 Authenticity Manual, which the CLC sells.

Easy to look under the hood, if it is a 346 Flathead it is a 1948 and it it has the OHV is a 1949.

I stand corrected now Eric. I'm still in the pre-war era where fastback coupes were in one series only.
