Dear friends,
Twenty-five years ago, I removed the steering wheel from my 38 60S to replace it. Of course, I bagged the horn button and all pieces together and labelled them. Crucially, I did not photograph the disassembly and now I can't remember exactly how it goes together again. I am particularly interested in how the white disc or cup is fitted. I know how the retainer holds the bezel down and the other disk goes into the back of the horn button, but for the life of me, I can't figure how the white disc and the spring go together.  If it fits in the centre of the disc behind the horn button, how is contact made? Through the spring?

I have attached a picture. Thanks for your anticipated great help.

Sorry Chris, sold my 38 some time ago or I would take it apart to help you.  I can say though I have no recollection of the white disc, is it plastic? If so somehow I don't think it's original, unless I'm remembering it all wrong? but the 38 plastic never lasted.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply! I too couldn't remember the white disc but coincidentally it fitted perfectly into the whole in the back of the horn button. I'll leave it out because I believe contact can only be made through that hole to the horn button proper.

Cheers,

Chris

This is a puzzle and I can't remember either exactly how this all goes together but maybe these pictures will help you.  There is a slotted piece in my pictures that I think goes into the insulator at the end of the column wire that I don't see in your picture.  I may have an extra of this.

All parts were missing on my 38 and these are the parts that Bruce Berghoff supplied for me and saved the day. I don't think this was everything though?

Dear Brad and Steve,

Thanks for the photographs and comments. After I bought the little clip from Brad, a repro bezel from a CCCA region and spring from Bruce, the workshop returned my missing bits right out of the blue! I KNEW I had all the pieces as I still had the horn button. Anyway, all is well and I will put the horn together now. Still don't know where I got that little white disk though.

Cheers

Chris

Hello again,

Now that I have duplicates perhaps I can help someone else. The only thing I cannot provide is a horn bezel retainer since I now have mine. The mason jar lid mod would have worked though.

Cheers,

Chris

If you still have those extra horn parts I need them.
