Looks like I installed the Cloyes C499, S404T and S365 timing chain set which are 1966 parts on a 1965 Cadillac 429 engine, which has not been started.  The part numbers for the 1965 Cadillac are C489, S370T and S337.  Is it OK to use the 1966 timing chain parts or should I replace them with the 1965 parts?  What is the difference?

Looks like the 65 is a 9 plate chain (groups of 4 plate stacked and riveted to interlock with 5 plate) and wider cam and crank sprockets.  The 66 is a 7 plate 3/4 plates interlocked and slightly narrower sprockets.  The number of teeth and etc. seem the same, just 1966 chain is 75% as strong as a 1965 Cadillac timing chain.  The issue with all these chains is the nylon sprockets.

Scott,
There seems to be a transition in 66 to a different set (as opposed to 1950-65) I would use the earlier set.  There is also a difference between the 65 and 66 timing covers, which might also effect the chain or gear clearance.

Yes, I'm changing to the correct 1965 chain - thanks
