 I cranked it six times for three seconds apiece to get the oil circulating and on the seventh turn it fired right up and just purrs. A great feeling!

I know what you mean... as modern Americans, we're constantly immersed in the "new and improved" marketing psycholgy, which places your '58 as if it were manufactured during the "stone age."
