What is the wire by my distributor for on 1970 Coupe deville?

Hi my name is david and i was wondering if anyone can help me find the proper location for the loose wire?

It certainly does.  Do I see a bit of a diode wire on the other
end, common on compressor plugs?  And probably one wire
goes to ground, or a compressor switch.  Bruce Roe

Just took another look and you can see the compressor clutch is disconnected.

The connection is right there on the far left side of your pic.

It is probably disconnected because the compressor pully bearing is seized.   Easier to pull the plug than to replace the bearing especially if the A/C was non operational when it happened.

^^ Yeah, don't connect it if your pulley is seized. That'll be a quick end to your 59.5" belts.
