Anyone see Antiques Road show tonight?  A fellow brought a large, very large, Cadillac Rain Lamp. They thought it was from a 1968 Auto Show. Supposedly there were 4 on display and 2 broke during removal. One of the appraisers  remembered seeing them as a child. It had 3 gold cylinders in the middle with large crests without the wreath. And then filaments all around with mineral oil running down like raindrops. He paid 150.00 for it. Should be ran again early this morning. It was on NETV. Ch. 12 in Nebraska. Thought it worth 2 or 3 k. It looked 6 ft tall.

Hi Kevin,

I saw that and thought how cool it would be for my living room.  I forgot all about rain lamps.  What a find that was!

As a child, I recall seeing a "rain lamp" with Cadillac branding in the dealership showroom at the former Hufstader Cadillac dealership at 5900 Baum Boulevard in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, during the late 1960's. I do not recall seeing it there by the mid-seventies when the dealership closed permanently (around 1977). A family friend in the funeral business also had a smaller "rain lamp" (minus the Cadillac brand logos) that hung like a chandelier at their business--it looked like "fake wood" and had gold-like trim. When I asked the owners about it years later, they said that at some point in redecorating it was thrown out or given away. The mineral oil must have recirculated in those lights and as a young person, I liked the look of them. I would like to see one again. I would consider them quite collectible!

I saw the show and the rain lamp.  My immediate thought was for the Cad enthusiast with plenty of space this would be the thing to have.  Then, came the appraisal.  Did it not come in at $5K?  A little steep for most car folk.

I think 2/3 K. I might be mistaken. I was thinking you would need high ceilings for this. Hell,  I got excited finding small Cadillac  odditiies. Like the small plastic placard I found in the trunk of an early 90's Seville.  It was velcroed in the trunk. It is an "illustration of four stowed golf bags".  Part #25683002.
