Hi again,

well, i am back to working on the 73 as I am back to MT.

The top has always been a source of frustration.  Last winter, i got it to work, somewhat,, on several occasions, after replacing a side arm,  the drive cables.  Then, at an important moment on a date, it would nt go up so i lived with it as I didnt have time to fool with it, but i did get it going up and down.

Now, I'm back,, I have replaced the motor and the other fuse switch that is next to the motor box as they are rusted an felt at a minimum it would nt hurt.

SO hoping for big things,,, i turned it on and same as in past.  on the going up procedure, after about 1 to 2 feet, it just dies.. sounds like the motor is dead,  but once the pressure is off the lifting and i have to manually assist it up it will push the top on over towards the windshield.  going down,, it does sort of ok, just have to make sure the bars dont catch on each other about 3/4 way down,, but it will push it down.

Im just about to wits end on this, i checked the fisher manual and it doesnt give a trouble shoot that i could find....like,, if top wont go up, do this or that.. so i really have no other thought as to what to do... I know it HAS worked in the last year,, and would seem it would with a new motor and the other part...but,, it doesnt..the rubbers fit the window tops, so i dont think its warped or bent.

any thoughts..

I can't help much, but have a few suggestions.

Call the top people Hydo e lectric and / or convertible top specialists and see if they have any ideas.

Find someone with a working '71 to '76 scissor top, put the cars side by side and watch how the "working" mechanism works then try to figure out why yours is different.

Search other forums (Chevy, Olds, Buick, Pontiac) to see if others have solved this problem.  When I had my '75 olds, the top was a common topic of conversation.  That is if no one here can help.

Look in Hemmings Motor news to see if there is a scissor top specialist that can assist.

I remember my top was slow to come up, many said I needed to replace the relay, $50 later and a new relay installed the top went up at the same speed....
