Does 48 year old diff oil need to be changed?

Thinking about draining / refilling the diff on my '70.  No indications of leaks, seepage or anything.

Leave it as is or change it using today's 90 weight?

Check it. If it still has the proper viscosity and is clean (both of which I’d venture to guess would be “no”) then leave it. Otherwise it is a great idea to change it out.

There was some discussion on this topic in one of my posts from a while back. About halfway down this thread, it goes into changing the differential oil. Mine's a '68, but it may be the same as your '70.
