Does anybody know what color Cadillac painted their engines and transmissions in 1956? I know it is Cadillac blue, but did they paint the bell housing and tailstock of the transmission or just leave as unpainted aluminum? What color were the exhaust manifolds. I also believe that the valve colors were blue but saw one period piece and they were red. Does anyone have a definitive answer with respect to what colors were used and on what parts of the drive train? Thanks in advance. Clay/Lexi

The engine and entire trans were painted Cadillac blue, a very, very, dark blue. Valve covers were also blue except models with dual carburation (Eldorado engine). Exhaust manifolds were not painted...just cast finish.

V63 is quite correct.  On models with the Eldorado
engine, the valve covers were gold colored as was
the air cleaner.

Bill Hirsch is the "go to" guy who has the closest match
to the original blue color.  It's available in rattle cans
and pints / quarts.

V63, Mike thanks. Got a line on some Hirsch Cadillac blue and plan to pick up perhaps even tomorrow. Just that red valve cover Cadillac ad threw me and was not sure if the aluminum portions of the trany were blue or left bare. Thank you. Clay/Lexi
