Anyone had to replace the rheostat that controls the fan speed for the rear A/C in the early under-dash controller?

In trying to get my A/C back in working order, I discovered that one of the fan speed controllers was broken.  I have joined the 2 wires with spade connectors, which means the passenger fan will always be on “high”, but it would seem that if I could find a suitable replacement rheostat, it could be replaced.

Any ideas?

craig-o,
I faced the problem with my 1955CDV and found replacement  controls at O'reiilys years ago. Fact is, their replacements are not of the highest quality. So I ended up making a bushing to "tighten" up the assembly. Before doing this, I searched everywhere in order to find common variable resistors from vintage "add on" auto air conditioners.....I just couldn't find any, anywhere. That's what led me to reworking my current fan speed controls. Works good but would STILL like to find some quality parts without breaking the bank....walt...tulsa,ok

A few eons back I was looking for similar rheostat replacement I did find one from Evans Products (sorry no part #) which look to be a solution.  :)

The rheostat is a bit different from the ones used on the A/C dash control, they are off-full on, control on versus the OEM not having the off option. Cole Hersee has those under part 7493-BX/7493-07 which are rated at 8 ohms same as the ones from Evans Products.

The bad thing about these is the shaft is way too short to install the knob.   :(

I have a couple of the original 55 AC rheostat switches.  Would be willing to trade one for a knob!

Art,

I may have one   :-\ need to dig around and post a picture for you to validate, if there are no one making you an offer.

If I can find it, I’m willing to sell it for the eBay rate of $999,999 or the CLC rate of $0, you have to make the choice just PM me.  ;)
