Anyone devised a fix for the mechanism to hold the hood open? Definitely a Monday morning design. It has come down on me a couple of times, and I find myself holding the hood with one hand while I try to work under the hood with the other. It doesn't have to be something permanently affixed to the car, just something secure I can use when under the hood.

You might consider using a hood prop sold by Griot`s Garage.  About 20 inches closed and 47 fully open. Easy to use and locks in place. Bill

Have you tried the correct hood props? Bob Hoffman had a pair for sale.

I think I have the correct hood props. Basically a horizontal pin with a little flare on the end? Doesn't seem like much to set a heavy piece of metal on. I like the Griot's garage unit.

Griot's doesn't list their device anymore, but I found something similar on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-45900-Hood-Prop/dp/B0002BC0T6#customerReviews

Ive never had any problems with mine, are you sure they are pointing the right way?,i think they could be installed either way, they do look kind of flimsy, but they do work.I dont think a prop would work on this design of hood,I would try a broom stick first before i bought a fancy prop rod,Thay is just my frugal ancestors telling me that. ;D Harvey

I don't think you can have the correct type on your car. They are not props like your suggesting. They are as in Bobs picture. See the picture of mine in operation on my 37.

Steve, mine are like yours, but it looks like yours have rubber covering the pin the hood sits on. Mine are bare metal. Guess I need to head to the auto parts store and get some rubber tubing.

The rubber stops the paint from being damaged and also acts as a roller for the self-closing aspect of it, a bit like a wheel.
