John Hacker came by today for the pre-inspection of the ATS before lease turn-in next month. He told me that Pete is now in a nursing home. His mechanic will sometimes come by and pick him up and take him for a drive in one of the cars. Pete was instrumental in getting our Authenticity Manual project off the ground. (And getting the Indiana Region revitalized back in the early 1990s.)

I met him at breakfast at the 1991 GN at a fast food restaurant. I'd noticed a blue 1985 Eldorado convertible parked out front and "guessed" which customer had it. We got to talking and he complained that the Indiana Region had "disappeared." I said that I'd been too busy as President to pay much attention to it and we only had a few guys that did anything anyway.

He got us back on track and is sorely missed.

Pete is a great guy.  If you or anyone else sees him, tell him hello for me.

When the Authenticity Manual project under Pete was just getting off the ground, along with others I started work on the 48-49 version.  My enthusiasm waxed and waned as I began to realize the magnitude of the task, but whenever things started looking grim, thankfully Pete would boot me in the rear end via an email or phone call and it finally got done.

Thanks Barry for posting that update on Pete -- even
though it was a rather sad piece of news.

I had the pleasure of being on Pete's team to produce
the first Authenticity Manual for Class 15 in 1997. Were
it not for his efforts to get the ball rolling we would not
have the group of Manuals we have today which are
excellent tools for all Club members to use.

And -- that was just one of his many contributions.

Classic

I've known Pete for many years - we live in the same town.  We worked closely to put on a CLC Inter-Regional meet a few years ago in Auburn, IN.  Stopped by Pete's shop a couple of months ago and saw Pete and his mechanic/caretaker Rich.  Rich would pick Pete up at his home and drive him to the shop, then help Pete walk a short distance to an easy-chair/recliner where he would stay until it was time to go home.  Pete didn't recognize me and I barely recognized him.  Sad.
