Can anyone tell me where to get information or diagrams of the linkage for the 3 speed manual? I am having trouble with getting the linkage right. Thanks in advance

I'm guessing you're asking about column shift, not floor shift?
Are your parts missing, damaged, ???

yes, column. Nothing missing or damaged ...I am just wondering if there is an easier way to set up the linkage that I don't know. I have 2 manual cars and struggled for a while with the last one before I eventually got it right. Just hoping there is a technique I don't know of to make it easier!! Many thanks

It would help us to know exactly what part concerns you as there's everything from the gear lever all the way to the trans, and all have to be correct. So what are you stuck on?

Its the adjustment of the linkage...I know it's a bit cheeky, but could I call you?? Thanks, derek

Steve Passmore

You probably could call but you obviously don't realize I am in the UK.
Basically get your Gear lever in the neutral position, The levers on the bottom of the column can only go on one way as far as I can recall but they must be pressed up as far as they can go. They will try to lift the gear lever in the car up so there's a special tool for this, but you can do it by getting someone to hold the gear lever in the car down hard as far as they can while you push the lower levers on. Get both levers on the transmission in Natural, then make sure the connecting rods attach to all the levers easily without moving the levers.

Hello Derek, I hope this is what you were looking for. It is from the 1940 Cadillac and Lasalle shop manual. I reassembled mine without the adjustment tool mentioned.
