Who owns the 1956 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham Town Car

Interesting article on the deceased attorney who owned it.
He also owned close to a 800 cars that were left to his foundation to liquidate to settle lawsuits against his estate.

As the saying goes, "He who dies with the most toys wins", so I suppose he won.   But, what a way to stop anyone else from enjoying them, which is the same for each and every collection, of anything.

But the, I suppose I am just jealous.

At least I can afford my current storeage garage.

Matt,

Thanks for posting. I've seen photos of this car, but not all the highly detailed photos in this listing by Sotheby's. What an amazing car!  But not drivable.

Hello,
fyi, the article is dated.
As such, I thought the Eldorado Brougham Town Car was made to be driveable albeit maybe not for highway travel fully loaded with rich passengers post restoration.
Regards,
Matt

Not sure how he is stopping someone else from enjoying them?

He bought them from willing sellers.

At least he did not hot rod them.

When Joe Boes (SP?) restored it some years ago, I think he made it "runnable." I could be wrong. I first saw it in his "garage" tucked away for restoring. It was on display at one of our GNs several years ago after it was finished.  Joe had also just trailered in the Knudson 1938 Fastback V-16 sedan. It was sitting on the trailer in his courtyard and the CLC Board climbed all over it.
I remember driving home from Chicago and when I got home, I got my copy of Roy Schneder's V-16 book and put my finger on the picture of the car and showed my wife. When I said, "Would you believe that three hours ago I had my hand on the fender of that car?"
She looked up at me and said, "So?" Some girls are just hard to impress, I guess.

P.S. Today is our 59th wedding anniversary.

When Joe Boes (SP?) restored it some years ago, I think he made it "runnable." I could be wrong. I first saw it in his "garage" tucked away for restoring.

Excerpt from RMS Article:
"The staff at Warhoops, however, most of whom had endured the hardships of the Great Depression and the rationing of World War II, could not bear to destroy it, so the Town Car sat for years under a tarpaulin until discovered by renowned Chicago entrepreneur, collector and restorer Joe Bortz in 1989. Mr. Bortz has made a career of rescuing and collecting concept cars and prototypes, particularly those of GM’s Motorama era. 'However, Mr. Bortz did not restore it, and instead he sold it to J.C. Whitney owner Roy Warshawsky during the early 1990s. Mr. Warshawsky planned a total restoration but sadly passed away before he could complete the job. A subsequent owner was Dick Baruk of Detroit.

Ultimately, RM Auto Restoration completed the car’s restoration and rebirth to its former glory.'
One particularly complex aspect of the project was the installation of a proper 365-cubic inch V-8 engine from a 1956 Cadillac sedan donor car. The engine compartment was dressed up with such items as gold-plated valve covers, dual four-barrel carburetors and unique air cleaners. Had Cadillac brought their prototype to running condition in period, this is what it would have looked like. It should be noted, however, that RM did not build the car to be road- and highway-worthy. The intention of the modification was to allow the fortunate new owner to run and drive the car on the show field, as well as on and off the trailer. Naturally, no road or safety testing was ever done, by either GM or RM Auto Restoration, and consequently the car is not suitable for road use of any kind."

Dick Baruk did a perfect restoration of the car as it was a push mobile only.  A show car buck.  When the auction company owned it, they put the chassis and engine in it.  Like stated above, no one should every actually drive that plywood & fiberglass car.

I have a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham. I really don't know anything about these cars. How much is one worth in good condition but needs work and pieces here and there? It does not have the mini bar pieces.

Depends on what is missing.  I might be able to help with missing parts as I have some spares and make a few things.
