The trunk on my 41 doesn’t lock - the key works in the lock but I can open the trunk with the key removed in either position.

I removed the lock and to me there seems to be a piece of metal missing/broken from the locking pawl which moves when the key is turned.

I’ve taken a couple of pix showing the lock with key removed in both positions  - I’ll do two posts to avoid any confusion as to which is which.

Can anyone confirm what’s wrong ?

This shot shows the key with the flat side facing down

Here’s a shot with the flat side of the key facing up.

This is where I think the problem is so I’ve added another photo pointing to the bit I think is broken.

Because it doesn’t lock I’m unsure which is the locked or unlocked position.

You don't have anything missing on the outside. The lock pawl is still there, that's the square piece in your first picture. It looks like it's pushing the pawl out.  There could be something broken that the pawl locks into on the sliding catch body?  That pawl locks in and prevents the handle turning.

Since I've sold the car, I can't be sure, but I believe the "top edge"  of the key which is the nearest to the long groove  in it is the "top" or "unlocked position. I believe that there is also a wider notch in the "center part" that is on top when unlocked. To further confuse the issue, I think I remember that when "unlocked" the key opening is off-center slightly towards the left. I hope this helps, and if I am "dis-remembering," chalk it up to coming from an old person. (I am sitting here trying to decide if the lock cylinder turns 360 degrees to take the key out again when locked. I think it does.)

Your first picture with the pawl extended is the locked position,

I found this photo of a refurbished handle that’s for sale - the pawl goes down whilst mine goes up which is a bit confusing and part of the reason I thought mine was broken.

Any thoughts on this ?
