Hello friends,

My passenger door window will not go all the way down. It stays up about 1". My driver door works fine. I have tried adjusting the upper stop in hopes that it may help (of course it didn't).

Any advice on how to allow the window travel down one more inch?

Thanks!

It is the lower stops that require the adjustment, and for that, you will have to remove the inner door panel to get to the stops.

BUT, something else is going to be the problem, as these windows went down properly when the vehicle was built, so something within the door has mot likely come out of place to cause the problem.

I have the panels off and don’t see any lower stops. I see the upper one only. I noticed a few minutes ago that there are small pieces of glass in the bottom door indicating that the window is a replacement. Maybe the issue lies there.

Where would I find the lower stops?

Thanks!

Sorry I cannot assist you any more, as I am not familiar with the internals of these doors, but, hopefully, someone will come here that has the Service Manual, or has done the job themselves.

Of all the pictures I have when I rebuilt a '69 SDV, I don't have pictures of the door internals.

But, the replacement glass should be the same, as these windows are curved glass, and should be body-specific.

Looking down into the door should show you where the stops are.

That's it.   10.716, near the bottom of the Cam Guides.

Actually, what these rubbers go onto is what will be the adjusters

I see the lower stops in the illustration and can feel them in the guides. However, I don't see how they are adjustable. It is like they are just pressed into the bottom of the guide. The upper stops have a bolt that you can loosen to adjust the upward travel. The lower doesn't seem to have any adjusters.

Any guidance on how to adjust those lower stops ?

Thanks,
Dave

Well, I just figured it out. On the guide closest to the front of the car, there were actually two stops in the guide. I am guessing that the original window was broken (shards of old glass in the bottom of the door frame) and the tech who replaced it must have put a new one in on top of the original. I removed the extra and it lowered perfectly.

Thank you everyone. The illustration is what got my pointed in the right direction. I appreciate all of your help!

Chris tam: I’m currently redoing the wood veneer, replacing the seat back solenoids, side trim, trunk lock cylinder, and ignition lock cylinder.

Next, recharge r12 (and see what else pops up), replace top, and some day a repaint.

Sounds like the "original" technician wasn't a very good one.

Plus, congratulations for working it out.

I agree. They didn’t even vacuum out a lot of the glass shards.

Thanks again! This forum has been so helpful to me.
