So the 66 i just picked up with the 429 is missing the original oil dip stick and i wan't to drain the oil and add the correct amount so i have a good state of mind that the correct level is in it.
My buddy keeps saying i should run some shell rotella 15w-40 diesel oil in it  as that's what he run's in his old chevy caprice with the original big block plus he's got a 55 gal drum of it.    I'm just not sure if it will harm anything in the Cadillac's engine.
Plus does anyone know the oil capacity of the 66 -429's?  Thanks
Mike

There's a reason why it's called Diesel Oil. Do yourself a favor and run a normal oil with a correct amount of Zinc in it. Too much, no good, too little, no good....Valvoline VR1, Brad Penn, Joe Gibbs, etc., etc. Subject's been beat to death here already. Anyone with a Flat Tappet Cam Engine knows the Drill.....

Mike, I have a 1967 225 Chryler V8 in my boat. I've used Rotella, fresh change every season for ages. No problems. It does contain the zinc. In my '41 Cadillac I purchase oil from Classic Car Motor Oil. It's made for old cars - a small refinery in Indiana.
