I'm trying to help out a friend determine the socket size for the Eldorado FWD axle nut. Can anyone tell me what size this nut is? Thank you!

You could just put a ruler on it.  I am not home to do that, but its
something like 1.5 inch hex.  I use a 3/4 inch drive set.  Bruce Roe

Plus, it calls for something like 250 Ft.lbs torque.

For mine I use a 4 foot long Tension wrench

A 6 point socket will be better for that high of a torque value.
You have to be careful because some of the replacement axles have a smaller thread and nut than the original.

So you may need more than one socket size for this job.

1-1/2"  socket.  I too used a 3/4" drive with a 6 foot 1-1/4" pipe as an extension.  Piece of cake.

One nice thing about these is you don't need a special thin walled 'axle nut' socket like you often do on a lot of the newer stuff, there is room between the nut and hub for a typical socket that size.

If your are using an impact gun try to get the socket thats drive matches the size of the gun.  Any adapters or extensions take away some of the force.  Mine is a 3/4" drive but I don't own a 3/4 gun.   After I welded the adapter in it it worked much better.  That is one advantage of the axle nut sets, they usually have 1/2 drive.
