My Hydramatic had a leak from the tailshaft area so I replaced the rear seal with a unit from NAPA a couple of weeks ago. And it's still leaking...

The new seal is fully seated and the driveshaft yoke looks good, no pits, gouges, etc., so I'm kind of stumped.

Is there a bushing I need to replace as well? I have the Service Manual, but can't get back to it till I'm back home and just wondering if I should order any additional parts in the meantime.

Thanks in advance!

All extension housings have some sort of bushing or bearings, check how much play the the yoke has in the extention housing.

Thanks for your response...I just checked and the yoke does seem to have enough play to allow a leak.

I Googled the bushing for a Hydramatic but mostly just got results for a Turbo 400 instead. Same bushing or not? Assuming I locate the correct part, does the tailshaft need to come off or does it install from the end of the tailshaft after I remove the seal?

You have to remove the Transmission Extension housing and press out the old bushing, and press in the replacement.

No other way.
