I have a 41 series 61 and I mixed up the two wires to the solenoid. I am unclear about how it works and I don't want to damage anything by hooking it up backwards. Is it a grounding type switch? Should there be power to one side always? How should I test it? Thanks Ron Parker

I presume you mean the two wires to the relay?  one is power from the start button, ground is the other wire going to the regulator.  They only work one way around. Attach live to one and ground to the other. Nothing works if you get it wrong.

Thanks, I was hoping it was that easy. Is their a reason it grounds to the regulator?

Its actually a smart design be Cadillac. If the engine is running and the generator is producing output, you can’t engage the starter. Not that you’d want to, but with the separate starter button, it could happen.

That makes sense. Cadillac really put some thought in the design back then.
