No, you try paving a large driveway for $3,000 today! Nothing special but large and paved. So I am going to save $100 and trash my pavement?

I got a quote for another large driveway where my garage is last year they went from $6,000 to $10,000. Gone are the quality $3,000 paving jobs.

I live in NH you just don't drop 2 inches if asphalt on a unprepared ground. Or can you say cracks in heaves in the spring? All I stated was where are the 2 negative comments and I have Hagerty but like all else the rubber meets the road when you file a claim. If you have never filed a claim how do you know how good they are?

If you have never filed a claim it's just an unsupported opinion.

I use Hagerty and no issues and great price.

I don't leave my fate in the hand of an insurance company for towing. I did that once (Allstate) and they failed the test.

I have my own guy that I use and then submit the invoice to the insurance. i don't expect them to pay the whole thing depending on circumstance.

The one thing I know about my guy is that when he tells me how long, he is usually there earlier than he says.

I have their phone number programmed into my phone and I have their little sticker on my windshield over the drivers side on all my cars...

Like I said, I like control of my destiny. Some would argue free will vs predestination, but once you are dealing with AAA or an Insurance company, you are controlled by chaos...

OK, Dog Pile on AAA.
Background - member with my wife for 41 yrs - yes 41 yrs - 100 miles plan.

Never had a problem towing any of our cars - drivers and classics from the driveway - flatbed only.

Plot thickens.
I saw an ad that they now cover classics.
Gave them a call - and after many put-off delays - lady is at my desk, call you back - client wants house and car ins., call you back.
Should have read the signs - duh!
Finally spoke with agent without interruption, got a quote.
Told by the agent he only needed to come out and take a picture of the front and rear ends of the car - 47 Series 62 Convrt..
Filled out the application on line and paid 1 yr premium, up front.
Agent said he would be out to take pics, but put-off 2 times.
Fed up, I was typing a "nasty-gram" to AAA, and before I pushed send he rings the door bell.
Went to the car and he tells me he needs the car uncovered so he can shoot all 4 sides.
The car is under 2 covers and I have a frame over the top so it doesn't get roughed up, and the car is parked within 1.5 to 2 ft from a retaining wall.
By then reminded him of the fact that no less times than 4 he said front and back, only.
I was so frustrated and pissed off at the run around, I told him to cancel the policy.
He sarcastically snarled that there would be a cancellation fee.
Tried calling the department head and after calling him, I got a voice mail he was on vacation - left a VMM, and was directed to another fellow - left VMM - who shined my call off until the manager returned from vacation.
Told him my story but he was unmoved - asked for the boss - who would not take call, but within a day or so wrote a letter - no call or text or email - which blew me off - such a coward.
Received a letter from AAA that I had not signed the application, and if I don't - no insurance.
The next day, I received a check - short the full amount paid.
Email to customer service for AAA So. CA. (phone numbers from web site lead back to local office where the problems started - so far crickets.

AAA towing - no problem
AAA insurance - A pox
AAA 40+yr membership - "bupkis"

Have fun,
Steve B.

If you read to the end - many thanks for letting me purge.

I have been a long time customer of Grundy Insurance for my collector car policy.

I just switched to Hagerty and there was a $1000.00 difference in the premium.
So I have saved $1000.00 for my annual premium and had excellent service.
I went down the list, car by car, and have the same agreed values and saved a lot of money.

I wanted to let my Cadillac friends know about this. Might be worth looking into.

Today i renewed my HAGERTY INS for my ‘56- here’s what i CONFIRMED:
1-Towing from ANYWHERE (even at home) up to 60 MILES UNLIMITED per year (i should know, i’ve used this benefit a few times this year!)
2-new discounts with vendors like ‘Koker tire’
3-they give US an immediate discount on premium for being members wih CLC!!!
4-ask about adding on “CHERISHED SALVAGE” its new this year (if total loss, they pay declared value AND you get your vehicle back)
Due to all the work this year i also INCREASED my declared value to 22k WITHOUT sending in pictures/receipts
Dont take my word- call in yourself. Ask for a manager named NICK ZDYBEL or just ‘Nick Z’
Thats my story- 253$/yr
Thanks, Rich N

I use State Farm for everything.  They have treated me very well over the years, great service and rates.

I have been with J.C.Taylor for 54 years, the year they were founded. They have paid several small claims, and have been fair with appraisals. They also paid a $22,000 repaint claim on one of my Pierce-Arrows with acid rain damage, with no problem.  With experience like this, I don't shop anymore.  Just keep renewing

The other thing to keep in mind about insurance (not just car insurance) is that the rates fluctuate.  Maybe you did get the best deal a few years ago.  But that may or may not be the best deal today.  As for the discussion of towing vs insurance, I don’t bother with road service/towing from my insurance company. I’ve already got AAA for my modern cars and use them for towing my Cads when needed.  Why expect an insurance company to provide good road service, or a road service company to provide good insurance?

It is quite clear that each person who responded is intent that their insurer is the best regardless of recommendations or facts presented.

Never said mine was the best, just that I have had zero issues and great service.  (which just results in a lack of motivation to try another company)

I’m very impressed with the way I was treated by Haggerty.
The took my 13 cars on a new policy within hours and I saved $1000 for the annual premium.

I was very unimpressed with AAA to put it mildly.  Sitting on the side of the road in August heat and humidity for about 4 hours and being told repeatedly that the truck was on its way until I found out it wasn’t was very frustrating.

Been with Haggerty over 15 years as has been great coverage with no claims.  Price and service competitive and I would highly recommend... They cover all types of classic cars, trucks and street rods as never turned me down covering any vehicle.  Newsletter and magazine are first class along with their valuation tool, research customer service interest.

Had a chat with Hagerty today as a matter of fact.

The foreigner who picked up The Ark here and brought it to Hyannis Vintage Auto
broke the transmission indicator. How do I know? I drove the car onto the street to make
it easier to load. The foreigner who barely spoke English and was in a HUGE rush put it on the
truck, crooked. Made him back it off until it was straight and he wants to fight "it make no diff rinse".
Back the car off and put it on straight... (my full officer presence trainer on full display). Then he only
straps down the front wheels and the straps are all twisted and so tight the tire distorted. Told him the
straps were wrong and he needs four. "it make no diff rinse lady".  'Kid, you damage this car and I'm going
to sue you and the tow company, you realize that right?' "it fine, it fine'  I took pictures of the tires and sent
them to Rusty at Diamond Back, he said the tires were probably OK but don't do that again.

When I picked up The Ark when the first phase of the roof was done, I noticed the indicator was hosed. I'm like "Michael, what happened to this???" It was like that when I got it. Its an easy fix, don't worry. "Michael, this car was perfect before that idiot put it on the truck, he broke it". ..

Relayed all this to Hagerty today, the tow was on 4Nov. Claim department (open on a Sunday at noon) agreed completely that a claim is warranted against the tow company and are waiting for me to say 'go'. If Michael can fix that for free, or for a few bucks, I'll let it go. Other wise a claim against Silver Cloud Towing. I asked if they could please find another tow company to call for me, as the Ark will need a ride again in a couple of weeks to upholstery. And I didn't like the way this same company towed the car during the summer either. They said they'll call the tow company and tell them to act right with the old cars or risk losing the Hagerty business on the Cape, which I guess is pretty extensive. Otherwise, yes they'll find me another tow company.

Give 'em hell Laurie. If they don't respect other people's property they don't deserve any business, from anyone. As for the idiot who loaded the Ark...  Wouldn't it be nice to 'load' him into one of those large ("walk-in") like bass bins, then crank up some METAL CHURCH, JUDAS PRIEST or MEGADEATH. Then warn him that the next time, should this happen, it will be the SEX PISTOLS or MARILYN MANSON... \m/ Clay/Lexi \m/
