Hello all,

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the garage,
not a new car was stirring, not even my new El Miraj.
The sockets were hung by the workbench with care,
in hopes that some NOS parts soon would be there.
The old cars were nestled, all snug on their lifts,
as I dreamed of yet more tools, for me, as gifts.
With ma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
we had just settled down to look at a Louisville map.
When all of a sudden, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang to the garage to see what was the matter.
Stumbling around for the door opener remote,
I stubbed my big toe when I tripped on a tote.
The light on the ceiling, and the view out the door,
bedazzled my eyes like never before.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a ‘59 Eldorado Biarritz with a windshield so clear.
Inside was a driver, so tall and so grand,
I knew in a minute it must be old Henry Leland.
Faster than sound did the 390’s cylinders chorder,
but old Henry new them, and called them in order.
First one, then eight, then four, then three,
then six, and five, and seven, and two finally.
From the top of the drive, down the street to the mall,
now fire away, fire away, fire away all.
With pot-holes and trash cans, ahead on the curve,
no problem for Henry and power steering did swerve.
So to the parts store, old Henry did flee,
for a trunk full of parts for my cars and me.
And then with a screech I heard on the drive,
the ‘59 and old Henry did just arrive.
I looked out the garage door when the horn gave a toot,
Henry popped open the trunk, and I saw all the loot.
Henry was dressed as a mechanic would be,
covered with grease and oil from what I could see.
From the trunk of the car, he gave me a bundle,
so heavy it was, I could barely trundle.
His eyes so merry, atop his head those gray locks,
so perfectly coiffed, like a set of J-blocks.
His visage so sound, and oh that goatee,
he looked just like he did in 1903.
With parts from GM, and parts from the stores,
Henry assigned to me a series of chores.
Restore that ‘41, and the brakes on the Seville,
you want the car to stop at the bottom of the hill.
That Hydra-Matic needs a front coupler, as he handed me a box,
and don’t forget, the Coupe deVille and the Calais need working clocks.
Here is a grinder and a paint gun to repair all that rust,
for a Cadillac to look good is truly a must.
He gazed at my garage, with my Cadillac banner unfurled,
his look made me realize how he created the Standard of the World.
With the parts secure in my garage, Henry gave me a wink.
I had much to do, but still had time to think.
Where should I start, which car should I first fix?
Henry suggested I read the shop manuals, and learn some new tricks.
There will be time aplenty to fix all those cars, perhaps even to acquire that Eldorado BZ,
but for now the season is upon us
to your friends, to your health, and to your family.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all,

Christopher Winter
