MY 59

Hi all,
I just noticed a few of the screws holding the interior hood lining mold were a little loose and on odd angles so went to snug them up.
They seem to be just sitting in !?
They are of a good length and when I go to tighten them at a correct angle, I hit metal but can angle the screw up, down, left and right and cannot find a hole to accept it?
Does anyone have an image of what is behind there? Am I missing a clip or something?
Can’t believe I am stuck on a trim screw ! Haha
Thanks as usual :)

Your body manual should have that answer. I just had to look up similar for the Ark.

Try using a long thin finishing nail or something similar to help you find the hole and assess the direction to aim the screws.  There is no body manual for these years.  If it’s not covered in the shop manual, you are out of luck, unless someone here happens to have a picture.

These screws can sometimes go in at odd angles. I would say maybe someone removed them before and maybe missed the holes.

They do screw into some threads under there somewhere. I have not had my 1959 moldings off, but I had my 1966 off. Some just be patient and sort of probe for the hole, its there.

Plus, I have found that sometimes, screws can be as long as 2".   I have stripped a lot of vehicles, and have been surprised at the "lengths" that car makers go to secure items.

PS.   I have made a long "spike" out of a broken hood cable to find these deep holes.

Do you have the exact name of the body manual for the '59 Cadillac and a source?  I have the shop manual but I need diagrams of the body parts specifically showing the front and rear bumpers and the trim.  Thank you.

Any auto upholstery shop should be able to help you.   May have to peel back the headliner to see if anythings missing.
