A Bowden cable is a type of flexible cable used to transmit mechanical force or energy by the movement of an inner cable relative to a hollow outer cable housing. Does anyone know how to clean this? I pulled the inside cable and cleaned it then ran alcohol thru it then wd40 still hard to pull the cale. Took it apart ran mineral spirits thru. Really dirty fluid came out. lubricated it and put it back together. Still very stiff. This cable is for the cruise control.

Sounds like the same type of assembly that a
speedometer cable uses.  Are you sure that the
cable and the shroud have no kinks in them
someplace?  That's what normally ruins a speedo
cable unit.

The more common name that I am familiar with is “choke cable”.  The inside does not rotate but slides in and out.  They must have large smooth bends.  If the bend it too tight it becomes too hard to move the cable.

Keep cleaning it and try soaking the whole thing in PB Blaster.  Maybe coil it up in a large ziplock bag?  It will start to move again.

Hi folks,
Why not go to your local motorcycle shop and buy a cable oiler kit? They are cheap and you can use it on all sorts of Bowden cables.

Glen and Mike You are correct. A friend and i held it straight after it was lubed and it was still tough to move.
Thanks 76eldo
