The 66 deville has an in car sensor in the dash above the steering column. I've been looking for one for over 6 months. Finally found one on ebay. There is also a perforated grill over the sensor to protect it. $130 Think i'll make one.

John,
FWIW that sensor cover has not gotten any more expensive in the 24 years since I was looking for one. I never got one.  When you get the sensor, be sure you compare it's resistance with the F at a couple of different temperatures, such as 32 degrees (200 ohms) and something like 100 degrees(F) (40 ohms) to be sure it matches the original T/R curve.

If I am not mistaken, I have seen recently new covers for sale so someone is making them now. So look for one.

Ill look again

Greg "with the F at a couple of different temperatures" What's the F ?

Fahrenheit?  I couldn't spell it either, I had to use google auto fill, which most times is as good as a 9/16" combination wrench.

Funny what you wrote, at first glance, I saw "What the F?"

I thinkhe meant Farad which is a measurement of how much energy a capacitor can store. However, in this application i think the correct term would be Ohm, as the "sensor" is nothing more than a variable resistor that varies its resitance in relation to temperature. I don't think you will find these so called thermisters that have exactly the same resistance curve. In my '67 I got one that was pretty close at my local electrical store. It just willnot be as precise but it will work.

Chris lol

gkhashem at this point i have more important things to buy. But even so i'm not paying $130 for it. I've seen them around for $50 or so. I started making my own today. Think its going to look good

b- daug Here is what i did . looks much better in person. Cost $3

MaR

That would be an easy part to 3D print.

I guess the original would be also. Any idea how much or where you can have that done.

DeVille68

I have the correct replacement temperature thermistor if you need one.

Nic I 'd love it How much?

DeVille68

Those are pretty cheap, however the time to search and making sure that the temperature behavior is correct took me a while. I even made a calculation with our engineering tools at work.

You will need to solder the new thermistor to the wiring. Make sure that it will end up somewhere in the middle of the screen such that it will pick up the air temperature flowing through this screen.

Send me a pm with your name and address.

Best regards,
Nicolas

If anyone else need those I can supply them. They are not NOS but are technically identical to the originals.

These climate control sensors back then were little more than lead based resistors. They almost never go bad. What happened to yours?

Mike It looked like it was crushed. It was mangled and cracked when i bought the car.
