I want to drive my car!
I want to start getting the engine all pretty'ed up.
I want to start cleaning and detailing the interior.
I want to start cleaning and detailing the exterior.
I want to have more shows 'finalized' in my book.
I want the weather to be warm so I can start washing
and cleaning and driving The Ark.
(Did I say that already?)

*I WANT TO DRIVE MY CAR*!

Virginia has about two months of salted roads and maybe a drive or two during that period.  I do not put away my cars or store them because they generally can be driven for about 9.5 - 10 months of the year when it is not raining.  Most of our CLC leadership seems to be up North, Chicago, Cleveland, PA, NJ, and NY.  I don't know how these members do it, not being able to drive their classics for 4 months or more.

Laurie, it is difficult and hang in there.  Yesterday it snowed here and so no classic car driving either.

If it makes you feel better, I drove the 10mpg Eldo around over the weekend.  I'm doing all I can to add CO2 to the atmosphere.  Hang in there!

Wish someone would invent a chemical that would dissolve ice and not ruin our vehicles. I think it would be nice to take a ride after a snowfall.

I got so disgusted with the cold weather I built a tent around my car in the garage and got a space heater. Works well I work on the inside of the car in just a sweatshirt.

There is a UTube of my car from the drivers seat - about 5 minutes. So I go for a virtual ride once in a while - till spring comes to northern Ohio.

If you really want to test your patience, buy a car from the other side of the planet, in a different hemisphere even.
Then, you get to wait, while its picked up from the seller. (didn't take too long)
Then, it gets transported to the warehouse for prepping.
Prepping includes underbody wash down, fumigation etc etc.
Then, it's into a container.
We were lucky, the container was waiting for our car, as it already had the El Camino and Corvette loaded.
Then, the ship may or most likely, may not be in port when the container is ready.
Then, you get loaded on a ship and travel to another port or ports as the case maybe.
Then, you set sail proper, on a 980 foot ship, the Ever-shine.

waiting....
              waiting......
                              waiting......
Until you arrive in Taiwan
Then, you get your container unloaded and placed on the dock.

Now, because you are supposed to go onto the YM Busan, you assume you do.
This is for the CAT service..... China, Australia and Taiwan.

So now, on the vessel tracking, you can follow the wrong ship to Australia.
You get to watch it sail right past where you live to the southern states.
Then it sails back up, doing one more stop along the way.

THEN.... at 5am in the morning, you watch the ship sail up the Brisbane River until it docks.

Now, you ring the importer, and ask, should I have made my final payment by now, seeing we've docked.  :-\

You get told, OH CRAP, sorry mate, i meant to ring you.... you missed the Busan, you're on the next ship, the YM Antwerp.

ME: WHAT, you've got to be kidding.

HIM: Oh don't crap ya pants, you're only running a week behind. (Its not his fault either, nothing he can do to change things.)

ME: So where the hell is my Fleetwood...my baby.

HIM: You're in Melbourne and about to sail.

ME: Friggin better be.....  ;D

So, a week later, we dock and get transported to customs.
I haven't been this excited since I was a little girl.  ::)

So, Customs decide, the Fleetwood is ready for release, as is everything else, EXCEPT the Corvette.
It gets sent for a rewash underneath, and you can't release part of a container.

So, now, we get to wait for the customs guy to recheck and give an official "okey dokey"

We got notification at 4:20 in the afternoon.
We were on site for pick up at 9am the next morning.

I drove the car up the street that afternoon, complete with California number plates.

So Laurie, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Just so ya know too, the importers, USAtoAUS were great.
We've had over home for a meal, we've become good friends.

Hopefully, if I can get all my ducks in a row, i'll use them again in the next 12 months.

Thanks folks (I think) for the moral support.
Remember this is my first winter with the car when I know what to expect
and enjoy when the weather breaks. Last winter The Ark was just rolled up in
huge blankets and tarps and looking like a huge left over on my lawn.
Now I know how much fun the shows are, meeting new people there, and DRIVING THE CAR.

Question on the ocean shipping of a car... that salt water environment is pretty corrosive and for
an extended time. If I could afford to bring in a car trans continental, I'd be calling Kallitta.

We actually got a couple of inches of snow a few days ago that quickly turned to ice. Those extra
straps I put in the roof of the Lair when I built it did their jobs. But still wanted to get the weight off
the roof. Found that using a large push broom and gently pressing up from the inside starting at the bottom made all the snow/ice slide right off, nice. Still in his CoverKing highly breathable jammies, the oscillating fan goes on for an hour every 6 hours, Mouse Blocker 2 still active on the floor (up on a brick) tires still surrounded with Victory mouse traps. I go out and visit every now and then.  :(

The 64 arrived, dry as a bone. Those containers are pretty well sealed.

Love driving the car, my 2 cents worth is, if ya don't drive, how can you enjoy it. Our car has covered 12,000 miles since being in OZ.

Glad to hear that!

You gotta drive the old cars, they'll DIE if you don't drive them. One thing Michael and Gary have drilled into my head is DRIVE THE CAR. "Drive it like you stole it" say's Michael. He's always squealing the wheels when he drives it, LOL! DRIVE THE CAR!! And this is my favorite from Michael, "if its not dripping, its empty".

Over the weekend I'll pull his jammies up and start, let him run for about 20 minutes, run through the gears, put the defrost on to get the blood flowing, get the hose going to the therm nice and hot. Miss driving my baby so much. Even after work a quick couple of laps around the 'hood would scratch my itch. Can't wait for April, or an earlier spring.

You're better off not starting the car than letting it idle for 20 minutes.

20 minutes of idle time is insufficient to evaporate all the moisture that will accumulate in the engine oil and in the exhaust.  20 minutes of drive time is very different.

If you can't take it out and drive it, you're better off just leaving it sit than idling it.

In his last posting here, Dan LeBlanc is most correct:  a car owner does far better to let the vehicle simply set... rather than running it briefly, it not having sufficient time or work.. to get rid of the moisture within the engine and exhaust.   Let it sit!

Cape Cod Fleetwood

Then I'll let it sit... <sigh>
Can't hear that glorious 472 motor...  :(
I did visit with The Ark briefly today after I got done cleaning up snow.
I blow the 'driveway' (lawn) up to the entrance of the Lair. Took a peek
inside and under his jammies, all seems well. GOD that new roof and headliner
are gaw-juss.

Miss driving my baby....
