Hello-  I am a new member looking for some recommendations for having a recent purchase transported from Hendersonville, NC to Falls Church, VA.  I would appreciate the benefit of other club member's experience.  Thanks,

Can it be driven?

My past transport experience has not been good.  Large, heavy, softly-sprung vehicles always seem to get some rash.

Delco,

Hi neighbor.  I'm in Fairfax Station, VA.

This hobby gives all new meaning to the phrase "If you want something done right, do it yourself".

When I joined this hobby in 2005 by purchasing a 1970 DVC, it was my intension to pay others for the majority of the services and work on it.  However, the reliability and quality was terrible, and so I do everything myself.  If you can drive it or trailer it up yourself I would do it.

What model and year?  Do you have pictures?

My experience tells me that you don't know all the faults of a newly purchased car, so something unforeseen could happen if you drive it.  This could be true even if the seller had the best intentions and told you every possible problem he/she was aware of.  Even though Hendersonville to Fairfax isn't all that far, you don't want to get stuck halfway between without resources.  I would trailer it (you can hire car trailers from U-Haul) or have it transported by a reputable car hauling company.

Case in point: when I bought my '49 I started driving it home from Chicago to Atlanta.  200 miles out in southern Indiana the rear pinion seal failed.  I took it to a friendly garage off the interstate, but since it was a holiday weekend they could not get a new seal and agreed to store the car.  I ended up flying home and calling Passport Transport to get the car, which I should have done in the first place.

That's only 220 miles, its also winter.
Might be a LOT cheaper to rent a truck and a trailer and drag it yourself.

Otherwise, if there are any resto shops you know in VA, ask them who does their
shipping.
