I removed the cam plate without marking it. Which side should the offset  be on? Is this for oiling? Is the hole in the end of the cam for oiling? I have Walt's Workbench flathead guide so maybe it will be smooth sailing after this. Ron Parker

If I'm not mistaken, it can only be installed one way. I just went through al my pictures and can't find anything detailing this, so it must be a no-brainer....

The hole is offset so the cam shows more one way or the other. I don't know why? Ron

Even when flipping it? I thought the retaining plate was concentric all the way around when bolted down. Somebody else will chime in who has an engine opened up.

The marks made by the cam on the plate is the giveaway.

Thanks,I figured it out. The gap goes on the passenger side. I guess it throws oil on the chain. Ron Parker

My previous post is incorrect. The gap on the cam thrust plate is on the drivers or left side. Ron Parker
