FWIW, the first auto issue of Consumer Reports magazine was issued in... 1953.   

And their choice for the best car then was... the CADILLAC!

I agree, and it has to be said that Cadillac was STILL the Standard of the World back then.

They continued to rate Cadillac very highly well into the sixties.
