Hello

I am working on my 65 deville convertible.
It justed to run really well until yesterday.

My originele 429 enging is running on only 4 cilinders.
Each of them is getting fuel because of his backfiring and wet plugs
When i put a 12v line from the battery too my ignition coil it is running on all 8.

Is this wear from the coil or would there be something else? I have also read on this forum about cracking speakers. Mine does the same ;D

Thanks, gary

You do not have a ballast resistor on that car so that is not a concern.
#1.  Check your condenser, check, and reset if necessary, your points.

Coils have different failure modes but what you are experiencing would not make the coil my first suspicion.

Thanks for the post.

I am going to go for safe and change the coil, condensator and place an electronic conversion kit.

Just to be clear, I am not referring to the condenser located at the coil, that is for radio ignition noise interference on the AM side of the radio.  The condenser to be concerned with is the one inside the distributor.  If you go with an electronic ignition such as a Pertronix, you will eliminate that distributor condenser anyway.

No resistor?  Meaning not a big ceramic block like on some models?  If it doesn't have a block then its got to have a wire.  The wires themselves don't often seem to fail but were I have seen issues is where the resistor wire splices to regular wire or connectors.  Its a dissimilar metal and corrosion issue that will just get worse over time.

No resistor, meaning no ceramic block.
Cadillac used a resistor wire from the ignition switch from 1960 on, possibly '59 --- actually, the resistor wire part began on the engine side of the firewall --- from the passenger compartment side of the firewall to the ign. switch it was a #12 pink wire.
