What year Cadillac for this transmission?

My guess would be 1952.

The C52 tells it is a 1952 Cadillac transmission, not a commercial chassis model. The rest of the number is the transmission serial number. Should be a good one to use in your 42.

The 41 had the selector detents in the selector head, 46 and later had them in the transmission, not sure about 42. If using a later transmission the detents in the indicator on the column need to be disabled.
