Hello!
Although I am not a club member, I know you folk would have an answer to my questions!
I currently have a 1940 Cadillac 40- 6229 Fisher Convertable Sedan that I’ve inherited. I’m more of an early ford guy myself and don’t see myself ever getting to it so I must ask, what is it worth?
I’m aware it is a rare body style and it is mostly complete, it’s only missing the headlights and top irons (unfortunately). I would like to sell it but I want to know what an honest fair sticker price would be and what history is behind the this model.

I’ve attached some pictures below
Thank you!

I'll jump in. A nice (really) example of that car would be valued in the $70-&75 range. Given the condition from the pictures and the missing parts it is obvious the cost to get from where it is to really nice quickly exceeds the present value. Of course that doesn't mean it doesn't have value. IMO as it sits as a project or parts car the value would be in the $3500 to $4500 as a starting point. The top assembly is going to be tough to find and will be expensive. Good Luck.   Harry

I agree. A Cadillac convertible sedan is a very rare and desirable car. But the fact is that hobby interest in prewar cars is waning and therefore prices are following. The car will require a very expensive restoration complicated by the missing top irons. I think the amount of rust repair required will determine if this is a parts car or a restoration candidate. The only hope of restoration is to find a rust bucket parts car to donate its top irons. Some models of Lasalle, Buick, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile would have the correct top.

Besides the top irons, you are going to need to find those side window pieces - I have seen those listed at over 1K each, if you can find them.

As much as I love the 4 door convertibles, this one would take a lot of work.  Depending on what all is left, I agree with Harry's ballpark prices.

The BEST that could happen to that car is to be made into a "parade car". There's so many parts missing. I'd be happy to get $1500 for the car if it was mine. Does it even have a title or is that another problem??
