Hello,
I am in need of replacing a freeze plug that sis weeping on the side of my 390 block. I measured the casting it looks to be approximately 1.475" diameter.

Does any one know the diameter plug that is needed?

The parts stores here do not have a listing for this plug so I have to provide a dimension.

I only need one plug and can install it with the motor in.

Thank you for you assistance,
Cheers,

If I remember correctly, they're 1 31/64".  When I needed one, I had to buy a box of 10 because the parts store had to buy a minimum of one box.  It was under $20 for the box.

Make sure that the ones you buy are either Brass or Stainless Steel, as replaced steel ones don't seem to last very long, not like originals.

Awesome thank you. I will pick up that size today. Luckily it is the one next to the starter. I should be able to install it with the motor in.

Thank you to everyone for the assistance.
John

Clean the shoulder where the plug sits real good. The castings pit over time.

Also, I had to re-do 5 of the freeze plugs in mine because they leaked no matter what I did. After using a high temp sealer and running a bead over the shoulder, I placed the plug and used 2 ball-peen hammers to seat it properly driving the convex center of the plug just deep enough to spread the edges for the seal.
