390 oil priming pump noise

My first oil priming tool jammed on pump rod and pulled it out of the engine.
I dropped the rod back in but now when turning by hand with my new good tool I feel/hear a slight crackling and popping.
before it was buttery smooth before in both directions. I tried slightly turning clockwise and felt like a tight spring.
Could the inadvertent R & R cause this chunky feel? Worries?

I am getting oil to (most) my rockers so far.

Ah ha.   You have found the downfall of using a home-made oil pump primer.

I would be trying to see down the distributor hole and seeing what you can see.   I have a peephole camera for such tasks, which makes things a bit easier, but you still have to ensure that the intermediate shaft is correctly back in the right place.

Unsure what the extra noises are now, but if you aren't completely sure that it is correct, then you will have to drop the sump, Oil pump, and reinstall it.

Plus, with the intermediate shaft out, you can make a better priming tool.

I made mine in such a way that it is very difficult for the intermediate shaft to jamb by installing a depth-limiting roll pin.

Thanks Again. This is my second tool with a limiter like yours showed.

the first tool was a just a crushed conduit.

Engine is in car. The intermediate shaft can go in and turn the pump and still be wrong?

it just fell right in (twice), didnt clock in any direction.

I cannot recall what each end looked like, as it was so long ago, and sadly, I don';t have any spares as I sold off what I had after selling the car.

Hopefully, someone with a spare shaft, or an engine in pieces could examine theirs, and post what they find.
