1941 Cadillac Fuel Pump Rebuild Question

Hello All

I found that my fuel pump on my 1941 Cadillac Series 63 has a fairly significant fuel leak.  It's never been rebuilt, so the gaskets are likely one of the main issues.  I know this part is hard to find and I'd prefer to keep my original part, if it is fairly straightforward to rebuild mine vs. purchase a professionally rebuilt part.  Does anyone have experience rebuilding a fuel pump like this one?  I've never done it and am curious how difficult it is.  Any tips or feedback are much appreciated.

Straightforward. Mark it before you disassemble it so it's clocked correctly when you put it back together. Take pictures also. Mike Gadeleto has a Great Kit. Good Luck!

I had my fuel rebuilt by Terrill Machine in Texas.  Works great and no problems after four years.  I think it was around $100 plus shipping.  Good Luck,  Ken Z

That's at least been off the car. My 41 doesn't have plumbers tape on the fuel lines.

Great point Jim!  I should have realized that and maybe it has been replaced or fixed at least once.  I'm the 4th owner of this car, as best I can tell from the records I received with the purchase, but I know it has under 25K miles on it.  It's been amazing to find virtually everything on the car as all original.

Arthur Gould Co in Holden, MA rebuilds fuel pumps for old cars. I haven't used them, but I hav heard good things about them. I have usually rebuilt my own. I have found that most modern replacement fuel pumps have cut some corners in quality over the original ones.

Before you proceed to replace, have rebuilt, or rebuild yourself, I recommend this this site:

Good luck!,

Let us know how you proceed and how you make out.

I 2nd the motion.  Gould has rebuilt several fuel pumps for me over the years with excellent results.  Will be sending them another soon.

If I'm not mistaken, he sold the business. Still operating under his name though. I think his main guy's manning the reins.....

I sent my spare to Mike at Cadillac Parts Ltd and had him rebuild it.

Thank you all for the information and advice. I think I will go with a professional rebuilder, as I've never rebuilt a fuel pump before, though I have replaced them before on my 60s Cadillacs.  Probably not the best time for me to learn how to do it with this old fuel pump  ;)

The business originally was based on Long Island NY and run by Arthur Gould himself.  I used to see him at Hershey.  Some years ago he sold it to someone who moved it elsewhere on Long Island.  The business moved to Massachusetts several years ago, so I assume it was sold once more while retaining the original name for good will reasons, etc.  Besides fuel pumps, they do water pumps too.
