I need to remove the rear seat in my 68 Eldorado, the shop manuals although about 4 inches thick does not seem to have the answers.
I assume its some combination pushing pulling and prying but any advice is appreciated. Thanks, Marty

Push the bottom cushion towards the back of the car and lift up.
There are brackets in the floor so you need to push the seat backwards to get behind the brackets then lift the front of the seat cushion up and it will come forward as it rises up over the bracket.

The backrest should have two fasteners down by the floor holding the backrest down.
It is also dropped down over a hook type bracket on the rear bulkhead of the body so after you remove the fasteners at the bottom, lift the backrest straight up.

Some cars just have screws or bolts, other newer ones have a t-50 torx head bolt and the rear seatbelts are also held down by the bolt.  These are often corroded and hard to remove.

Shop manuals are generally not good for body repairs but the companion body manual for your year GM car may be helpful. Not necessarily with written info but with diagrams.

I usually have a shop vac handy to clean out what's under the seat bottom.

Good luck,

Brian

When you remove the back seat look for the build sheet left there by the factory.

Yes. Do look for the build sheet. I was fortunate enough that mine was there when I removed the rear seat on my 72 CDV.

Here's a pic of one of the rear-seat, bottom-cushion hooks. Push toward the rear of the car and lift up.

These hooks are surprisingly easy to bend. So if someone has been over-enthusiastic in the past, it can make your life more difficult.
