Can you believe this car, its got more press than half the bands I worked for...
FLORIDA BABY! My realtor was here today taking more pictures!

And to keep this on track as a CADILLAC thread so Bruce won't delete it, most of you know
I'm looking for a house in the Tampa area north, close to the beach and with a garage big
enough to store my CADILLAC in. If anyone knows of a ranch, 3 beds, 1.5 baths and a garage
big enough for my CADILLAC, PM me, thank you for the CADILLAC member help. If you know any
CADILLAC members, CADILLAC lovers who are realtors in that area that could work with me finding
a new home for my CADILLAC, also PM me.

Laurie,

Cadillacs of 1970's were no more than 234 inches long (just over 19'-6"), and Cadillacs were not the longest in 1979 as that honor went to Lincoln.  large Cadillacs, Lincolns, and maybe Chryslers were manufactured into the 1990's.  My 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood was on the order of 221 inches long, comparable to a Lincoln (made until 2011).  Like cars you can gauge a garage by the year built too.  If the house was built 1990 or before then it should accommodate your Cadillac.  The standard for garages and parking spaces at stores changed in and around year 2000 from 20 to 18'.  My house was built in 1988 with 24' depth garage.  Hope you find a garage for your Cadillac in FL

BTW very coll article.

I finally had time to read the whole article. You were really lucky to find this particular car and I loved the part about he day you bought it. Way to hustle!

1970 was a really great year for Cadillac. One of my favorite years. I have owned many 1970 Convertibles over the years. In fact the first one I bought when I was about 20 years old in 1977 was a Byzantine Gold convertible with a black top and a mint black leather interior. It was a bit worn on the outside but I loved that car to death. I only sold it when I got a black 76 Eldorado convertible and didn’t have room for two cars at the time.

Yours is a keeper. You really have made it the best it can be and I hope it keeps running strong for you. That 472 really gets you down the road.

we have a member with a '59--and a continental kit, to boot!

When his current house was built, the wall of the garage had to be moved from the regular location to fit . . .

My house is a 1968, so my '72 convertible fits.  I suppose I could put the '93 Fleetwood in there too (instead of the '97 ETC), but it would make going from the laundry room door to outside difficult.  That, and the '97 is about to get major work that would have it blocking the inside car from getting to the street . . . and that its paint is near perfect . .

Laurie, your Fleetwood is 228.5" overall length. That's 19 ft and 1/2in. A 90s or earlier home should have a garage long enough. My garage would just about fit your Fleetwood.

3 beds 2 baths is the most common configuration for homes in this area.

That is a beautiful car.  Congrats!

Funny. I had to remove a section of the sheetrock and saw out a 3' section of a stud to get my Eldorado in the garage. It has 1-1/2"s to spare before the door braces touch the rear bumper. My house was built in 2005.

Every Caddy I have including the 1960 and the 70’s Eldo’s all fit into a 20 foot garage.
Not much room behind to close the door but I have had these in storage units at various times and those are exactly 20 feet.

A garage can never be too big

A 77 Fleetwood, a 77 Town Car, a tractor with front end loader and snowblower, and an F350 all fit here with room to walk around it all.

Assuming you used a header and jack studs when you cut into a load bearing wall?  ;)

MOST valid point Laurie.  When we were looking for houses here in San Antonio the first thing the realtor  did was to get out of the car, measure the garage and IF it was over 23 feet deep (to fit my 72 Eldo), we went in and looked at the house. Not being able to walk around a car in a closed garage is for the birds.

Non-load bearing wall. Really?
It's a partitioned wall with galvanized studs in a 24" OC placement. I removed a 3' section of one stud. For the sake of a mint Cadillac, it was worth the destruction. Had there not been a 5" deviation in the garage slab over final finished floor, I may have removed that wall and extended the garage 13 more feet. That would have given me a hit in value. Bedroom over garage space. Bedroom is much more of an asset.
