66 Deville cruise control cable. The cable is between the dashboard module and the module under the hood. The wire is attached to a very small  piece of plastic on the dashboard module the question is if you remove the cable and pull on the wire inside the tubing should it move very smoothly, have some tension or be hard to and pull and push.
When I took mine out it was very hard to push and pull. Tried soaking it overnight in a variety of solvents and it loosened up a tiny bit. But I'm still not happy with it. I filled the tubing with WD-40 and other types of lubrication and it didn't help at all..

The cable should slide in and out easily when you rotate the speed selector  thumb wheel. If yours does not move smoothly it is corroded on the inside. I have that complete assembly - from the dash to the under hood controller.  It operates smoothly and is complete except for the plastic finger tab  "on / off" switch  on the dash plate. You'd have to transfer the tab from your unit.

thanks Ralph I already have two of the dashboard units.I'm just looking for a cable. Maybe you could help me with something else. When I took the wire out of the tubing I had to straighten the edge. I think I've got it loose enough to be usable but I don't remember which way the end of the wire was spent in relationship to the other end. Can you tell me which is right or wrong.
by the way you may want to look at my post on this form called "fabricating company". Just some handy information

Fixed it. I bought a choke cable from a tractor. I cut the old tubing off the cruise control cable then cut a piece of tubing from the tractor cable, merged them together and it works great. The wire inside the tubing moves as smooth as silk. Even the plastic tubing around the metal tubing came off easy and fit the new metal tubing easily.
