DANDOR

I have a 1939 Cadillac Lasalle that I am trying to take the leaf springs out of I already removed the rear end and rear shackles plus the front hanger nut but how do you get the bolt out of the shackle it appears to be welded in do I have to cut it any help will be appreciated thank you

The front spring bolt has a very large circular head and is somewhat pressed in to the front spring mount.
It visible from the inside of the frame.
The bolt can be removed by driving it out from the nut side. You can run the nut on and hit with a hammer or use a drift pin or punch. if the bolt is worn or damaged you can get a replacement from ZIP Corvette. They are the same as a C1 Corvette.

Thank you very much I will give it a shot tomorrow

I am looking toward doing the same thing with my 1940 6227C.  If you are referring to the eye bolts in the front of the leaf spring, there is a cover with spanner wrench holes on the inside of the frame.  If you have this, perhaps turning it with a spanner wrench will ease the process.  Also, you can heat it with a torch.  Let us know how it works out.  Best, Ed

As Fred Pennington said, I found the rear spring front eye bolt at www.Zip-Corvette.com.  It's their part number SU-382.  Thanks Fred.

ebuliavac, There is no cap. You are looking at the head of the the shackle bolt.
The originals have two holes for a spanner wrench, The replacements don't have the holes.
The edge of the large head has some serrations to keep it from pivoting with the spring.

Wait till you try to put the springs back on your '39. No fun! The manual tells you how.
