I have a 1940 LaSalle that I am planning to take to Kansas City this Summer.  The left rear wheel shows signs of brake fluid on the tire although it is old looking.  It might be that the PO fixed the leaky cylinder, but I need to look at the brakes before going.  Where can I get a new rear brake cylinder?  If not a new one is there anyone sleeving them?

Apple Hydraulics and White Post Restorations sleeves and/or rebuilds wheel cylinders and master cylinders.

Hagens AutoParts has new wheel cylinders for about $48.00 I believe and rebuild kits for about a third of that. You'll have to know PRECISELY what size you have, but if the cylinder was working and is now just leaking a rebuild kit will probably work well. The most you'll have to do is hone the cylinder and a brake hone isn't very expensive either.
I am not familiar with the precise sizes of the cylinders but I believe they are in 32nd increments so pop yours off and measure it with a vernier caliper and you'll know what to order.

Tom,

Not responsive to your question but....I also have a 1940 LaSalle and am considering driving it to KC. Perhaps we could caravan if we are geographically located.  I am in eastern Missouri along I-70.  If you have any interest please respond here or via a personal message.

Thanks,

According to my 1935-55 Master Parts List, a 40 LaSalle should have 1 3/32" diameter wheel cylinders, part mumber 545 0471 on the front wheels and 1" diameter cylinders, part mumber 545 0468  on the rear wheels.

Hagen's in Washington State also rebuilds and sleeves wheel cylinders.  They sleeved mine as well as my master cylinder with stainless steel some years ago and I've never had problems with them since.  I also installed stainless steel hydraulic lines on my '49.
