What it says on the tin.  This happened once before, about three weeks ago, and it self corrected.  The weather is nice today so am less worried than usual but does anyone know the issue?  NB the other windows roll down and up just fine.

There are several possibilities:

The driver's switch in the master control gets the most use - if it feels like there is some slack or looseness in the button operation, the switch may be excessively worn, and need to be replaced.

Because of the position of the switch, it is vulnerable to moisture, dust, and dirt getting in. Perhaps a squirt of electrical contact cleaner spray might help.

There could also be a poor connection between the switch pins on the bottom of the switch, and the block connector to the master switch. This can be accessed by removing the screw at the leading edge of the switch plate (located forward of the mirror control), sliding the switch plate forward to disengage, and lifting out. Make sure the connection is clean and tight.  Later cars have a longer post, with a blue push nut, that was designed to keep the connector from working lose.

Lastly, the connector between the wiring harness and the motor itself often corrodes if it has been exposed to excessive moisture.  Make sure the connector with the two blades in "T" formation, is clean and dry, as well as the two terminals on the motor itself.

On rare occasions, the operation of the window may cause the motor gear which meshes with the teeth in the regulator gear sector to jam or bind, that is to say that when the gear sector on the regulator runs out of travel, it can get stuck there.  Make sure the down-travel stop on the door glass is not set too low.

So, I did what I did before and let the car sit for a few hours.  The window rolled up just fine about half an hour ago.  Not sure if that helps with diagnosis, but I'm probably going to look at the switch, etc. in the next week or so since this is getting old, and getting old fast.
