Replacing vacuum lines on a 1970 Cadillac
« on: February 21, 2020, 07:29:50 PM »
Hello Again ,
I am in the process of replacing most if not all  of the vacuum lines in my 50 year old Cadillac . I have noticed that the vacuum hoses coming off the control valve have a colored streak that is very helpful . My question is what is the best type of vacuum hose to use ? I hear good things about UPGR 8 it is a  combination  of silicone compounds and fabrics .  Some are made of neoprene.  Does any body reproduce the hose with the colored streak ? Finally how many different diameter hoses are used on the engine .  I noticed that the original hoses are ribbed ( lines running the length of the hose. Is there anything particular to look for or a certain brand that works better in the system ?

 Thank you ,
           Bill

Old Air Products sells this universal vacuum line kit which has striped hoses:

I'm sure there are other suppliers as well if you search around a bit.

Bill,

Good idea, one at a time is best.

The climate control hoses that are striped are made like a harness and are joined together on the inside at dash climate control and connector at firewall.  Best to disconnect from each actuator, snip off the ends (1/4") and reconnect.  They hold up well on interior, and the harness makes it fool proof.  Under the hood replace them all, especially the ones thru the firewall.

Hello Scot ,
Sounds like a good idea to me .  Thank you for all your help in the past . I took the car out today and what a good feeling to have that emergency brake release when I put the car in gear .
Thanks again for your help in the past,
