Happy Sunday!

So my last post talked about starter woes.

If i convert to 12 v, here’s my plan, wanted to enure im not overlooking anything:

1. 12 v batt, one wire alt, starter solenoid, window motor solenoid, headlight switch, all bulbs and headlights, horn relay

Just replaced 6 volt window cylinders, don't want to repeat. Can i put one of those 6 volt reducers where wiring for switches begins?

Gauges: do i need one reducer for all 3? My temp gauge and oil pressure is mech anyway..
Would like to only do the fuel gauge.

Not worried about fan motors, FL Is always hot anyway. Will do reducers regardless.

Thanks gentlemen,
Cheers

I do not favor one wire alternators.  After pulling the gen and mechanical
voltage reg, you will be holding a heavy wire for the alt stud charging
current, and a small wire going to a GEN light, other side to ign.  Connect
this to the alt small light connection.  This provides dual purposes of
indicating lack of charge, and getting the alt going sooner.

The third, voltage sensing alt connection goes to a point where power is
supplied and the alt supplies, which will give you the best possible voltage
regulation.  if this sounds too complicated, the conversion is out of range.

Any heavy drains like a fan motor are best replaced with 12V components,
including any speed control elements.  Converting 12V to 6V at those
power levels requires substantial stuff such as DC to DC converters,
resistors are not the answer for several reasons.
good luck, Bruce Roe

Thanks Bruce, i appreciate the insight. Sounds like ive got some homework to do first.

If i can get 6 volts to do all i need, reliably, i will stay with 6 v. Making progress but this has been a lot of tinkering to find these grounds have been causing issues.
