So I’m still working on my early 331 motor. I’m not sure of the year but the Vin # starts with 51 so does that mean it’s a 1951 motor?  My second question is I need the lower portion of the bell housing that holds the starter.  Is that unique to the year the motor was made or can I use for example a 1949 piece.  Thank you guys for any help with this.  Also if anyone has a manual trans bellhousing for this motor I need one!  Thanks!

Hello Douglas,

The MPL lists: group # 8.0289 part# 145-4140 Housing, clutch or flywheel, lower fits 1949-1954. The hollander interchange manual shows the same. I have attached picture from MPL illustration. I hope this helps you.

Yes, if the Vin # starts with 51 it means it’s a 1951 motor.

Great info thank you Bob and Jay!  Now if I could find a bellhousing for the synchromesh transmission I’d be all set.  I know they are very hard to find.
Thanks again!
Doug
I’m including my phone # just in case someone out there has the bellhousing I need.
