Im am replacing the wiring in my 47 60S & would like some help please.   I have a new harness (actually purchased it 15 years ago. Life got in the way!) from Rhode Island Wiring.   I am in the process of removing the dash and i'm stuck. I want to remove the ignition switch & the armored wire from the coil. I got the key lock out but not sure how to remove the switch portion. Does the trim ring twist off, and the switch will push back?  I tried to twist gently but it wouldn't.  It also appears that the armoured cable is crimped in to the switch, and is not removable?          About the coil. I found through this forum a Delco- Remy service bulletin with directions to remove the cap on the base. It says to slip a  .15 strip of metal up under the cap, 1" back from the cable. I tried that and only broke the feeler gauge off up inside. Now i have to get it off!  Thanks for the help.

Hi Bob,

Regarding removing the ignition switch from the dash, yes, the trim rings twists off.  You may need to get a small pair of pliers to exert a wee bit of force.  Don't forget to wrap a rag around the trim ring first if using the pliers so you don't mar the ring.  Once the trim ring is off, the switch will push back through the dash.

And, yes, the armored cable is not detachable from the switch.  When you get the switch out and the other end disassembled from the coil, you will seriously want to consider replacing the wire that's inside the armored cable.  CLC member Marty Watkins in the Philadelphia area can disassemble the switch and run a new wire through the conduit and solder it in place.  Well worth doing for peace of mind.  If you can't get the end cap off of the coil, I'm certain Marty can address that for you, too.  I can recommend Marty as he has done the conduit rewiring for me on my two cars - plus I've known the man for over 30 years.  :)  Let me know if you want his contact information.

 Guys,
You have to remove the ignition switch BEFORE you try to remove the ring.

Sucess!  I was able to get the cap off & yes i used a bit more force and was able to twist the ring off.   I would like to convert this car to 12v to add air conditioning & modern radio.   Can I bypass the armoured cable on the switch?
