Can anyone out there tell me what or how the parking pawl is released? I’m putting my engine back in the car and couldn’t turn the driveshaft to put it back in, had to jack the back wheels off the ground. Tried trans in all the gear selections still wouldn’t turn. Does the car have to be running and trans pumping fluid to release the pawl? Thanks Harold

Have you manually moved the linkage out of reverse?
We have a 55 so I don't know what changes, have been made
But just moving ours out of reverse released it.
Good luck.

I doubt it's the pall.
You're trying to turn the trans and engine with a 3" diam lever & possibly backwards.
Yes, rotate the rear wheels.
